2008 In Review: My Personal Favorite Posts
Readers of this blog often ask me which of my posts would I recommend. Which posts, they ask, do I think are the most meaningful? It’s a good question for the last day of the year… so here is a short review of the six posts that are my personal favorites.
Why We Chose Voluntary Simplicity: Sometimes There Is No Tomorrow — This post is about the circumstances (especially one tragic event) that led us to make major changes in our professional and personal lives. This was an extremely difficult post to write because it was so deeply personal and the circumstances affected us so drastically. I will probably share more of this story in 2009.
It’s The Simple Things That Count is another favorite of mine because this post is the story of the love that made an extremely difficult period of my life more bearable.
Our Hand Dug Backyard Pond and Removing An Enormous Tree Stump: How We Saved $576 — because they evoke happy memories and document projects that were a tremendous amount of hard work… but were fun too because we did them together. Our perseverance and the finished projects gave us a huge sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Why There Are No Old Bold Mushroom Hunters because I had such a good time scouting out all the different types of mushrooms in our woods so I could photograph them… also this post can serve as the final chapter in my lengthy quest to identify edible mushrooms.
To me, The Wood-Burning Cook Stove In My Kitchen is symbolic of our simplistic lifestyle, and this one wood stove contributes so much to the cozy atmosphere of our home. I love the way it looks and the heat it provides and the independence it gives us from electricity and other fuel sources. I think this comes through in the post!
Happy New Year everybody!
