I'm also noticing that our wholesale club (BJs) is no longer stocking many of the items that were our buying staples. Your post has made me wonder if we are actually saving these days. I need to do some price comparisons. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm trying to decide this right now. I keep getting getting notices that my membership is about to run out and so far I have not renewed. My neighbor who has never been a Sams Club customer receives coupons and membership trial offers 2 or 3 times a month. I would be paying more to be a member after 6 whole years of membership than this neighbor would be as a first time customer. It just is very unfair and something in me wants to rebel against it although I know that any rebellion will probably hurt only me.

This is a question I ask myself everytime our membership fee comes around. I can't tell you how many times we have almost not renewed but when we start adding up what we save we save far more than the membership fee. I agree though, you would think they would give long time customers some sort of a thank you instead of giving everything to new people who probably won't even go past their trial membership. I never understand why companies do this kind of thing. Direct TV is another company who gives everything to new people to entice them and nothing to people who have been their customer for years. We actually canceled our service with Direct TV because of this policy and told the service representative this. It made zero impression.

I used to demo at one of those kind of stores. Demos are how they advertise either a new product, a product that isn't moving, they have a lot of and is about to expire, something high ticket so you will impulse buy or something you can only get at that store, etc. In other words a demo is simply bait...
Ever notice that most all the food in those stores costs about $10 or more a package? That all adds up very quickly. There are a few things worth getting that way though. My daughter and I split a membership so it saves us half the fee. It is coming renewal time so we have to look at each other and decide whether or not to renew this year.
