Hosta ‘Undulata Albomarginata’

Hosta ‘Undulata Albomarginata’ has been the most commonly planted hosta for the last hundred years. Unfortunately slugs love it too, and without slug protection it can look pretty awful in just a few weeks.

Hosta ‘Fire and Ice’

Despite its small size, Hosta ‘Fire and Ice’ really stands out and is easily recognizable even from a distance because its foliage shows such a sharp contrast between the white and the green.

Hosta ‘Summer Joy’

Hosta ‘Summer Joy’ is a relatively new hosta for me, and I started with a small tissue culture last summer, so the plant is still not very large. In spring and early summer, Summer Joy’s leaf centers are the bright yellow shown in these photographs.

Hosta ‘Great Expectations’

Hosta ‘Great Expectations’ is an especially beautiful hosta. When it emerges in the spring, the leaves have a bright yellow center and wide irregular bluish-green borders.

Hosta ‘Krossa Regal’

Hosta ‘Krossa Regal’ is one of the classics, and it is an impressive sight with its large, vase-shaped mound that makes a wonderful backdrop for smaller hostas.

Hosta ‘Halcyon’

My Hosta ‘Halcyon’ is an unusually beautiful powdery blue and until last year had always stayed this color all season.

Hosta ‘June’

Hosta ‘June’ is a gold-centered tissue-cultured sport of Halcyon. This is another hosta that normally shows a color change, with the gold color getting lighter as summer progresses.

Hosta ‘Gold Standard’

A mature Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ is an impressive sight! It has no trouble passing the “ten foot rule” (meaning that it is easily recognizable from a distance) because the bright color of its leaves will make it stand out in any garden.

Hosta ‘Guacamole’

Hosta ‘Guacamole’ was named the 2002 Hosta of the Year, and it definitely is near the top of the list of hostas with the most fragrant flowers. Guacamole produces large, trumpet-shaped, pale lavender flowers and leaves with chartreuse centers and darker green margins.

Hosta ‘Undulata Univittata’

Hosta ‘Undulata Univittata’ is a very common hosta, and it is always one of the first to emerge in spring. It has wavy leaves with curved tips and a very thin substance that makes them a real attraction for slugs.
