Happiness Is…
Some of my favorite quotations about what it means to be happy:
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.” –Anne Frank
“Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul.” –Democritus
“Happiness grows at our own firesides, and is not to be picked in strangers’ gardens.” –Douglas Jerrold
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom and understanding for the gain from it is better than gain from silver and profit better than gold.” –Proverbs 3:13,14
“The secret of happiness is not in doing what one likes to do, but in liking what one has to do.” –James Barrie
“Always remember to forget the things that made you sad, but never forget to remember the things that made you glad.” –Victor Borge
“Happiness is like a potato salad — when shared with others, it’s a picnic.” –Unknown
“The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.” –Benjamin Franklin
“Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product.” –Eleanor Roosevelt
“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.” –Earl Nightingale
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” –Helen Keller
“Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.” –John Barrymore
“If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself. He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day.” –W. Beran Wolfe
